Aurora Police Officer Named African-American Leader Of Year
Skyy Calice will be honored in a special ceremony on Feb. 22.

AURORA, IL -- Skyy Calice is helping young women around Aurora to "shatter glass ceilings," Mayor Richard Irvin said of the Aurora police officer who was named the city's 2019 African-American leader of the year. Calice, who mentors local young women as part of her Girls Run the World program, will be honored in a special ceremony on Feb. 22.
Calice works with girls at Metea Valley, East Aurora, and West Aurora High Schools to help them develop leadership skills and by giving them an outlet to discuss challenges they face both in and out of the classroom. In a statement, Mayor Irvin credited much of Calice's success to her leading by example, calling the officer an "accessible positive role model" who "goes above and beyond her noble call of duty to serve and protect Aurora."
Calice will be honored alongside other African-American community leaders at the city's African-American Heritage Advisory Board's 15th Annual Heritage Dinner on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
