Knife-Wielding Man Dies After Being Shot By Officers: Aurora Police

The shooting happened near the Fox River in downtown Aurora.

AURORA, IL — A man armed with a knife was shot by Aurora police and later died, officials said Wednesday night.

Police said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 12:35 p.m. regarding a battery and a person with a weapon in the 300 block of South Broadway. There, responding officers located a man who was barricaded and armed with a weapon, according to a news release.

Authorities said the man displayed a knife when approached by police, resulting in officers firing shots. The man sustained at least one gunshot wound.

Officers rendered aid to the man until Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived to provide emergency care. Police later issued an update saying the man, age 27, had died of his injuries, and the Kane County Coroner's Office responded to the scene to take custody of his body. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

The involved officers were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, per protocol. The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting.
