AURORA, IL — Aurora police are warning locals of a fake I-Pass text message scam that continues circulating.

Police said scammers will send urgent texts claiming the receiver owes toll money and prompting them to click a link to pay immediately.

Warning signs include the message coming from a random email or phone number and containing suspicious links, urgent payment threats, and instructions to reply and click.

In an alert Friday morning on Facebook, police said they're reminding locals of the scam in recognition of "Slam the Scam Day" on Thursday.

"Don't take the bait — delete the message and report it as spam," police said.
