AURORA, IL - David Lewis, a co-founder and curator for the Aurora Regional Fire Museum, has retired.
The fire museum announced Lewis' retirement, which became effective on Feb. 29, in a press release last month. Museum officials said Lewis was dedicated to preserving the history of the Aurora and surrounding fire departments within the walls of the museum.
“....the Aurora Regional Fire Museum has been my life’s work for nearly twenty-five years. I am encouraged by the direction of the new board members and staff. Their progress and enthusiasm is refreshing. In the last few months alone, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing members of the curatorial committee draft much-needed revisions to the collections policy and procedures," Lewis said. "Members of the newly formed marketing committee have a well thought out vision and direction, and I am excited about the programs and ideas being pursued by the members of the education committee. I am also thankful to have participated in the selection process for a new executive director, and am confident in the abilities of all the candidates who have made it onto the short-list. With their skills and fresh new approach, along with the board’s continued leadership, I am emboldened about the museum’s future.”
