Student With Gun 'Did Not Have Specific Plans For Violence': Police

The student was charged with three felonies, including aggravated battery to an officer.

AURORA, IL — A West Aurora High School was charged Tuesday after he brought a gun to school, according to police, who said the student "did not have any specific plans for violence" at the campus.

Officers responded to the school, at 1201 W. New York St., shortly before noon Tuesday after receiving a report of a student with a firearm.

After the student — who has only been identified as being a juvenile — was searched, they were taken into custody and later charged with three felonies: five counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one count of Firearm Owners Identification card violation, and two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

Police did not respond to Patch's request for comment about the circumstances of the aggravated battery.

"Student and staff safety on every school campus within the community is a top priority for the Aurora Police Department," officials said in a news release Tuesday evening. "Maintaining close partnerships with students, staff, and school administration is crucial in order to resolve incidents such as the one encountered at WAHS today."

The Aurora Police Department encourages students, staff members and parents to communicate when they see something that concerns them.

"Working together, we can make school campuses safe environments for everyone who uses them," police said.
