Aurora student to perform as 'Marian Paroo' in The Music Man Jr.

Aurora's own KyraJo Petit to perform as 'Marian Paroo' in Spotlight's performance of The Music Man Jr.

Marian Paroo, the prim and proper librarian of River City, is not one who is willing to be mesmerized and hoodwinked like the rest of her town by the charming "Professor Hill". Ever since he came riding into town things in River City have been turned upside down. But when another traveling salesman comes into town with bad news about Harold Hill, it is she who realizes and reminds her town of just how magical life in River City has been since he had arrived. Will her town be able to forget their everlasting Iowa stubborn chip-on-the-shoulder arrogance long enough to remember?

KyraJo Petit, who takes on the role of Marian Paroo, has graced our Spotlight stage for over 8 years by playing wonderful roles such as "Peter Pan" in Peter Pan, "Mae Peterson" in Bye Bye Birdie, "Nancy" in Oliver, a disciple in Godspell, "Donkey" in Shrek, "Sally Ann" in The Great American Tall Tales, and many other favorite roles. For her, Spotlight has been a firm foundation through her teen years and a wonderful place to create lifelong friendships, all while allowing her to grow and learn about life and herself. Come on out and see KyraJo perform in her 20th Spotlight performance, which is also her last, as she will be graduating out of the program.

An affectionate tribute to Smalltown, U.S.A. of a bygone era, Meredith Willson's The Music Man, Jr follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.
