Sasha Hasalube(age 18), from Aurora, will be taking to the Spotlight Aurora stage one last time. This bright, young lady will be performing as Mrs. MacAfee, the mother of Kim MacAfee. In our story, Kim is the teenage girl who has been randomly chosen to kiss the music star, Conrad Birdie, goodbye before leaving to serve in the Army.
At 11 years old, Sasha was introduced to Spotlight by her best friend, Emily Angelo. Since then, she has found Spotlight to be a wonderful community to express herself, to feel understood, and to make great friends. It’s no surprise Sasha takes so naturally to the spotlight, as both her parents have been involved with theater. She has been in 6 Spotlight shows along with 2 other shows with her school, Aurora Christian. Her favorite shows have been “Tarzan” and “Beauty and The Beast”, and her favorite roles have been her role as a mother ape in “Tarzan”, and her present role of Mrs. MacAfee in “Bye Bye Birdie”.

Because of Sasha’s love for theater she has plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University next year to double major in Theater and English with a focus on Creative Writing. Sasha will be dearly missed among her friends at Spotlight and we wish her all the best as she moves on to this new chapter in her life.
Aurora’s Spotlight Youth Theater offers numerous classes, and puts on three fully produced professional quality shows a year. The group, whose purpose statement is “Reflecting Christ through the performing arts”, stresses community as well as excellence.
