Aurora Walmart Gets New Shopping Options

AURORA, Ill. (August 31, 2018) – Walmart is announcing the arrival of a high-tech Pickup Tower and its free Online Grocery Pickup service at the Aurora Supercenter, providing customers with two new, convenient ways to shop.

The Pickup Tower, a 16-foot structure that functions like a high-tech vending machine, can fulfill a customer’s online order in less than a minute, while Walmart’s free Online Grocery Pickup service enables shoppers to order groceries online and pick them up without leaving their cars.

The improvements are part of Walmart’s plan to spend an estimated $56 million over the next year in Illinois through the remodeling of 16 stores and the rollout of several in-store and online innovations, like Pickup Towers and Online Grocery Pickup, which help customers save time and shop however, whenever and wherever they want.

“We know speed and convenience are important to our customers, and we’re always looking for new ways to bring it to them,” said Store Manager Jason Hebert. “Both the Pickup Tower and Online Grocery Pickup provide our customers with innovative ways to shop, delivering on our commitment to saving our customers time and money.”

Pickup Tower

To use the Pickup Tower, customers simply choose from millions of items available on www.walmart.com and select the Pickup option at checkout. When the item arrives at the local store, an associate loads it into the tower and the customer retrieves it by scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone. The Aurora Pickup Tower is the fourth to arrive in Illinois.

Online Grocery Pickup

Walmart’s free Online Grocery Pickup service enables customers to order groceries online at grocery.walmart.com and pick them up at their local Walmart store without leaving their cars. Highly-trained personal shoppers carefully select the freshest produce, meats and other items requested. Upon arrival, customers will find reserved pickup parking spaces marked in orange and a designated number to call to alert an associate to come load it into the car. With this expansion of Online Grocery Pickup in Aurora, the service is now available at more than 50 stores across the state.
