Boy Scout Troop 11 Turns 100 years

Aurora Boy Scout Troop 11 is celebrating 100 years this June

Aurora Boy Scout Troop 11 is celebrating their 100th anniversary in June. The Boy Scouts of America was founded on February 8th, 1910 and Troop 11, the Original Blackhawk Troop, followed a mere 6 years and 4 months later. Chartered by the United Methodist Men of Wesley United Methodist Church in 1916, the troop continues to meet at the church located at 14 N. May Street in Aurora as it has since 1929. Troop 11 is the second oldest troop in Illinois and one of the oldest troops in the United States. During Trop 11's rich 99 year history, 181 scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America. In fact, another scout will be celebrating this amazing achievement during the anniversary festivities.

The 100 year Anniversary Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 18th from 2-5pm at the Wesley United Methodist Church on the corner of May and Galena, in Aurora. Current scouts, alum of Troop 11 and their families are welcome to attend the Open House from 2-4pm, with the Court of Honor (achievement ceremony) starting at 4pm in the sanctuary.

If you or someone you know has a connection to Troop 11, they would love for you to share your story and be part of this milestone celebration. Perhaps you have pictures or scout memorabilia you would like to share. Or maybe you would like to find out how to support Troop 11 in its endeavors.
