Car Rolls Into Pond After Crash, Leaving 1 Critically Injured: Aurora FD

Two cars crashed Monday evening near Bilter Road and DuPage Parkway and required the response of a water rescue team.

AURORA, IL — Three people were hospitalized Monday night after a car rolled into a pond near Bilter Road and DuPage Parkway, according to the Aurora Fire Department.

Fire units and a water rescue team responded at 7:06 p.m. to the scene of the two-car crash. Only one car was submerged in the pond, officials said. The other came to a stop after it hit a tree.

One person, a 24-year-old West Chicago woman, was trapped in the submerged car while the driver, a 23-year-old Aurora man, was able to free himself and swim to shore, officials said. His condition was stable when he was taken to a hospital.

Four Aurora officers who arrived on the scene attempted to save the woman but were unable to enter the car. Two divers from the fire department's Water Rescue Team entered the water and brought her to shore, police said.

She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the second car, a 45-year-old Aurora man, was also hospitalized in stable condition.

No injuries were reported to the four officers who jumped into the water, but they were also taken to a hospital for evaluation. No firefighters or divers were injured, officials said.

Bilter Road between Charter Oaks Drive and DuPage Parkway was closed for a few hours as a result. Members of the Aurora Emergency Management Agency assisted with the road closures while the police department's Traffic Division investigated the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 630-256-5330.
