Community Affairs Administrator Appointed At West Aurora District 129

AURORA, IL — West Aurora School District 129's community affairs manager has been promoted, officials announced.

Todd Mielcarz was appointed community affairs administrator for the 2023-24 school year by the Board of Education during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The administrator worked as the community affairs manager for a year, during which time he focused on video and podcast production and content creation for the district's social media channels. In his new role, Mielcarz will work with the community affairs director to "provide timely and convenient communication" and help plan and execute many of the district's communication initiatives, including special events, multimedia content and community engagement.

Prior to that, Mielcarz worked for 11 years as the district's auditorium manager and multimedia director. In the position, he helmed projects updating the West Aurora High School auditorium and created video and audio content "to promote positive happenings" throughout District 129, according to a news release.

Mielcarz began working in public education in 2005, spending 6 years in a similar role at Oswego Community Unit School District 308.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve the students, staff, and SD129 community in this new role," Mielcarz said in a statement. "I have learned over the years that this district is a special place, and I look forward to celebrating its rich history and a bright future as a part of the community affairs department."

His experience extends beyond education, having worked as a member of the production staff for the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, an assistant stage coordinator for the ABC series "What About Joan," and an equity stage member at two theaters.

Mielcarz has a bachelor's degree in speech, communication and theater from North Central College in Naperville.
