Coronavirus: 2 Deaths, 41 New Cases In Aurora Over Weekend

The number of people in Aurora confirmed to have the new coronavirus has tripled in less than two weeks, according to the latest statistics.

AURORA, IL — Two people died from the new coronavirus and more than three dozen others tested positive for the virus over the weekend, city officials announced Monday. More than 300 people in the city have now contracted COVID-19 and seven have died since early March, when the first known local case was reported.

The city of Aurora accounts for more than a third of all confirmed coronavirus cases in Kane County. Kane County Health Department officials report 651 confirmed cases in the county as of April 20, including 237 people in the Kane County portion of the city.

The city’s total stands at 302 cases once residents in Aurora’s three other counties are included, city officials announced Monday, meaning the number of confirmed cases in the city has more than tripled in less than two weeks. Officials reported 96 confirmed cases in Aurora on April 7.

Since the start of the outbreak, 45 residents at senior living facilities in Aurora have contracted the coronavirus, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Officials say 31 residents at Bickford of Aurora are presumed to have contracted the virus and six have died.

Kendall County Coronavirus Update: One New Death Confirmed

Alan Fairbanks, executive vice president of operations for Bickford Senior Living, confirmed to Patch Monday that six residents at the company’s Aurora facility died from the coronavirus but disputed the IDPH’s count of confirmed cases, saying nine residents had tested positive.

Workers and residents who show coronavirus symptoms at a facility where there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 are counted as confirmed cases despite not being tested, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Monday during his daily coronavirus briefing.

Fourteen residents at Elmwood Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center are also presumed to have the coronavirus, but no residents of Elmwood Terrace have died from related conditions, according to IDPH.
