County Coroner, Local Nonprofit Provide Hams To Families In Need
Rob Russell, the Kane County coroner, partnered with the Christmas Cheer Foundation to donate boneless hams to residents of Hesed House.
AURORA, IL — Spreading Christmas cheer, Kane County's coroner partnered with a local nonprofit to provide hams to the residents of Hesed House.
This is not the first year Rob Russell helped deliver meals to Kane County residents in need. He began his benevolent venture in 2018 and had to pause due to COVID-19 but made his return this season.
Along with the Christmas Cheer Foundation, an all-volunteer charity, Russell collaborated with Caputo's Fresh Market to provide families with meals. In past years, when the pandemic was out of earshot for residents, the group would deliver meals to families instead.

"COVID has not allowed any of us to continue life as normal," Russell said in a statement. "Although this is true, the need to assist those who lack proper food is still with us. I am so thankful that the Christmas Cheer Foundation has found ways to continue their mission. It may not be ideal, but it’s something."
This holiday season, Hesed House — on a mission to feed and provide for people in need — received more than 150 pounds of fully cooked ham ready to be warmed and sliced, according to a Kane County Coroner's Office news release.

"Christmas is a time for giving," Russell said. "My deputies and I deal with difficult circumstances throughout the year, situations that are not cheerful. This program allows us to help the community in a realm before they move on from this world. It also gives us an opportunity to renew our spirits, something that we need as well."
