Crash That Killed 2 People, Shootings May Be Related: Police

Two people are dead and three more are hurt after two vehicles hit a semi near the I-88 overpass on Orchard Road.

NORTH AURORA, IL — Two separate reports of shots fired near Aurora may be related to a fatal crash involving two vehicles and a semi-trailer on Orchard Road Monday morning. Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash at 11:47 a.m. near the north intersection of Interstate 88. Police said a Jaguar and a GMC Envoy were heading north on Orchard at "apparently high rates of speed" when they struck the trailer of a semi that was making a turn in the intersection.

The driver of the Envoy, 23-year-old Christopher Shaw of North Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Envoy were flown to a Chicago-area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said front-seat passenger Devonte Bouchee, 24, of Aurora was pronounced dead shortly before 5:50 p.m. Backseat passenger Devin Dobbs, 23, of Aurora remains hospitalized, according to police.

The driver of the Jaguar and only occupant of that vehicle, 38-year-old Serafin Castellanos of Aurora, was taken to an Aurora hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The semi driver, 27-year-old Sadam Elbu of Burbank, was also transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The Kane County Sheriff's Office and Aurora police are investigating two reports of shots fired in the area that may be related, according to the sheriff's office. The first report came in at 11:04 a.m. on Konen Avenue near Arlene Street in unincorporated Kane County. Aurora police responded to another report of shots fired at 11:45 a.m. on Nantucket Road and Durham Drive near Indian Trail.

Both reports involved vehicles chasing each other and shots being exchanged, according to the sheriff's office. Police said nothing appeared to be hit by gunfire in the the Konen Avenue shooting. But in Aurora, two homes — one in the 1200 block of Morton Avenue and one in the 800 block of Old Indian Trail — were damaged by gunfire. There were no reports that anyone was injured by the gunshots.

"It is possible that the three incidents are related; however, at this time the investigation is ongoing and we are withholding releasing the identities of those involved pending notification of the next of kin," the Kane County Sheriff's Office said.

Orchard Road rat Interstate 88 reopened at around 5:30 p.m., police said.
