Daily Coronavirus Cases In Aurora Falling For Weeks; 81 Deaths
Public health data shows the average number of new cases in Aurora over the past week is at its lowest point in seven weeks.
AURORA, IL — The coronavirus continues to spread in Aurora, with more than 3,500 confirmed cases as of Thursday, but public health data shows the average number of daily new cases has been steadily dropping for the past three weeks.
The 7-day rolling average of confirmed cases per day — a measure that takes into account daily fluctuations to show longer-term trends — has been below 50 since May 30 after dropping from a high of more than 110 in mid-May. The 7-day rolling average of confirmed cases stood at just over 20 on Thursday, according to statistics from the Kane County Health Department.

More than 90 percent of Aurora’s 3,523 cases have been recorded in Kane County, though more than 300 city residents in DuPage, Kendall and Will counties have also tested positive, according to public health data.

Since the start of June, 257 Aurora residents in Kane County have tested positive for the coronavirus, including 68 since Monday, the data shows. Just six people tested positive Tuesday, the first time the city recorded less than 10 new cases since April 19.
More than 80 Aurora residents have died from the coronavirus since the start of the outbreak in mid-March, the data shows.
According to Kane County’s statistics, 81 Aurora residents have died from the coronavirus, but the city’s website has only confirmed 64 deaths as of Wednesday night.
Forty-three deaths have been linked to long-term-care facilities in the city, including 20 at the Symphony of Orchard Valley and nine at Alden of Waterford.
