Driver, 69, Dies After Crashing Into Fire Hydrant, Utility Pole: PD

Police said it's unknown if the driver sustained a medical emergency before crashing near West Indian Trail and Almond Drive Tuesday.

AURORA, IL — A 69-year-old driver died after crashing into a fire hydrant and pole near the intersection of West Indian Trail and Almond Drive Tuesday, police said.

Officials identified the man as Vincente Barrera, of the 1400 block of Golden Oaks Parkway in Aurora.

Police responded to the single-car crash involving an SUV at about 11:38 a.m. Tuesday where they found Barrera, the car's only occupant, to be unconscious and not breathing.

It's unknown whether he sustained a medical emergency prior to the crash, officials said.

Both directions of West Indian Trail near the intersection with Almond Drive were temporarily closed while Aurora Police Department's Traffic Unit conducted an investigation.
