East Aurora District 131 Breaks Ground On New Center

Work has officially begun on East Aurora School District 131's latest social and academic hub, located at 417 Fifth St.

AURORA, IL — Work has officially begun on East Aurora School District 131’s latest social and academic hub. Located at 417 Fifth Street, the site of the district's previous Service Center, the Resilience Education Center (R.E.C.) will serve as a focal point for East Aurora students and families.

Plans for the center include a recording studio for music students, a full culinary kitchen, a coffee shop, ample study and collaboration space, as well as areas for district families to gather for parent association meetings and support groups.

Former Associate Superintendent of Operations, Steve Megazzini, supervised the groundbreaking event, which ushered in a new phase in Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Norrell’s vision for East Aurora students and families.

Thanking area Alderman officials and District 131 Board President Annette Johnson, Dr. Norrell drove home the significance of such a center for streamlining communication, activity, and the success amongst East Aurora students, noting the strong support of Board and area leadership in making this endeavor possible.

Also in attendance was City of Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, a former Tomcat whose support of East Aurora growth and expansion has been equally paramount to the district’s ability to offer more opportunities for students to succeed.

As students in East Aurora continue to achieve high graduation milestones, Seal of Biliteracy fulfillment, accomplishments in the creative arts, NJROTC and military advancements and more, the spaces in which Tomcats collaborate and realize their full potential will also grow.
