East Aurora High School Operation Snowball Welcomes Guests From Ireland
The students built connections and learned about the similarities and differences between their schools, communities and cultures.

AURORA, IL — On January 15, East Aurora High School’s Operation Snowball proudly welcomed a special group of international visitors from St. Teresa’s Youth Center in Belfast, Ireland. Six students and two chaperones from Ireland spent the day with EAHS Operation Snowball student leaders, building connections and learning about the similarities and differences between their schools, communities, and cultures.
Throughout the day, the visiting students experienced life at EAHS firsthand. They walked the halls with Snowball leaders, participated in presentations from EA Paws Pals, and shared a culturally diverse meal while engaging in meaningful conversations with members of the East Aurora community, including staff, administrators, and school resource officers.

One of the biggest surprises for our guests was learning that East Aurora High School can hold nearly 4,000 students and operates with 20 school buses. They were also introduced to a few uniquely American staples, most notably “red sauce,” better known to us as ketchup. In return, students from Belfast shared that they typically walk most places, attend a combined middle and high school with fewer than 1,000 students across seven grade levels, and are more accustomed to Heinz “brown sauce.”
The day concluded with the full Operation Snowball group coming together for service projects benefiting local organizations, along with team-building and bonding activities led by both student and staff leaders. These shared experiences highlighted the universal values of leadership, service, and connection that transcend borders.

Both the East Aurora and Belfast students will continue their journey together as they head to Bloomington-Normal to join youth from across the region at The Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute, where they will further develop their leadership skills and deepen the relationships formed during this memorable exchange.
