Fire Breaks Out At Vacant Apartment Building On Aurora's East Side: AFD
The first-arriving police found flames breaking through the roof. Units on the building's west side saw extensive floor and roof damage.
AURORA, IL — A vacant apartment building in the 1600 block of Northeast Drive caught fire early Thursday morning, according to the Aurora Fire Department.
Aurora police were the first to respond to the former Aurora Housing Authority building at 12:53 a.m. Thursday and discovered flames breaking through the roof. Fire crews arrived shortly after and found "significant fire involvement" on the second floor, according to a news release.
Crews searched the eastern units on the first and second floors but were unable to safely search western units due to extensive fire damage, which included both floor and roof failure, officials said.

Firefighters deployed a ladder truck to bring the fire under control using its aerial capabilities.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Aurora Fire Department.
