AURORA, IL — Feeling slight pain when looking at prices per gallon of gas has become the new normal as of late. But as high as prices are, they continue to fall, even if only little by little.
While prices in Illinois remain high, the average price for gas is $5.10 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA. That's 16 cents cheaper than a week ago and about 33 cents less than when Patch last reported on gas prices.
At around $5.24 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were significantly above the state average.

The national average has also fallen to $4.63 as of Wednesday. And despite an increase in demand — especially around the July 4 holiday — pump prices have declined.
"Usually, more people buying gas would lead to higher pump prices," Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement Monday. "But the price for oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, has fallen and is hovering around $100 a barrel. Less expensive oil usually means less expensive gas."
