Gas Price Update: Aurora Prices See Slight Uptick At Start Of 2023

The average price for a gallon of gas in Kane County was $3.49 as of Friday.

AURORA, IL — As 2023 gets its wheels off the ground, it's leaving behind the lower gas prices Aurora residents briefly enjoyed at the end of last year.

As of Friday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Illinois was $3.51 — that's up 10 cents from a week ago and 7 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

At around $3.49 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were slightly below the state average. Nationally, the price per gallon of gas is going for an average of $3.28 Friday.

Comparatively, the last time Patch took a look at gas prices, the average price for a gallon of gas in Kane County was $3.08.

The recent uptick in gas prices was caused by the recent frigid weather and robust travel, according to AAA. But prices will likely fall again.

"As we head toward February, pump prices will likely dip, barring any jolt in the global oil market," Andrew Gross, an AAA spokesperson, said in a statement. "But it is likely that the national average prices we saw heading into Christmas may have been the lows for this winter."

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Aurora is selling for $2.99 per gallon at Amoco, 2112 Ogden Ave. Here is what other stations around town are charging:

  • BP, 674 N. Broadway: $3.09 per gallon
  • Thorntons, 2800 Ogden Ave.: $3.29 per gallon
  • Midwest, 611 Ashland Ave.: $3.29 per gallon
  • Amstar, 12 Hill Ave.: $3.29 per gallon
  • Shell, 1505 Butterfield Road: $3.33 per gallon
