Half-Pound Of Meth, 20-Gauge Shotgun Seized By Aurora Cops

Police say the driver was wanted on a warrant related to previous meth charges.

AURORA, IL -- Two men are facing felony charges after Aurora police found a half-pound of meth, a 20-gauge shotgun, and ammunition during a routine traffic stop. Jesus E. Duran-Contreras, 23, of West Chicago, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and Vladimir R. Fernandez, 30, of Joliet, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in connection with the incident.

Police say that around 1 a.m. they spotted a car with a license plate that was obscured. Officers pulled over the car near the intersection of Galena and Fourth Street, where they ran the information of the driver, Duran-Contreras, and discovered he had an outstanding warrant related to previous charges of methamphetamine possession.

Fernandez, a passenger in the car, was also found to have an outstanding warrant related to traffic charges.

Police placed both men under arrest and then searched the vehicle. In doing so, they found a bag containing meth with a street value of around $22,000. They also found a 20-gauge shotgun and ammunition in the trunk of the car.

Duran-Contreras and Fernandez were taken to Kane County Jail, where they are currently being held on bond.
