Healing to Healthy receives grant
Grant to purchase sewing machines will expand Healing to Healthy's volunteer opportunities
Healing to Healthy received a $2,000 grant from The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley under the fall 2019 grant cycle. The grant will allow the organization to purchase sewing machines to advance Healing to Healthy’s mission of creating comfort clothing for mastectomy patients.
Founded by two breast cancer survivors, Healing to Healthy hosts sewing meet-ups where volunteers sew a special camisole that mastectomy patients need after the surgery. The camisole has pockets on the inside to hold the post-op drains in place, making the patient more comfortable to sleep or move about.
“We had a tremendous response to our first volunteer sewing meet-up held in January,” said Amy Downing, President of Healing to Healthy. “This grant will allow us recruit more volunteers by being able to provide machines for those who want to attend our meet-ups but don’t have a portable sewing machine of their own.”
