AURORA, IL — Icy road conditions resulted in four crashes on Halloween along Route 34 west of Frontenac Street, police said.

Tuesday's holiday was a chilly one. Snow squalls and 45 mph winds blasted through the Chicago area as trick-or-treaters prepared to take to the candy trail in celebration of the spooky day.

The resulting slippery roads didn't treat some drivers well. At 8:55 p.m., police received three reports of crashes along the state route, Lt. Joseph Howe told Patch. No one was injured in the incidents.

A 2014 Chevrolet driven by a 58-year-old Oswego man was driving west on Route 34 from Frontenac Street when he rear-ended the 2001 Chevrolet, driven by a 20-year-old Aurora man, in front of him, Howe said. The 2014 car had to be towed from the scene.

At the same time, a 28-year-old man from Naperville was driving a 2013 Ford west on Route 34 near Frontenac Street when he saw the crash in front of him. In an attempt to avoid it, he merged into the left lane, rear-ending an unknown car. Howe said the car that was hit fled the scene.

Nearby on Route 34, a 17-year-old Yorkville boy driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu watched as a pick-up truck spun out in front of him. The teen was able to avoid hitting the truck, but instead T-boned an unknown car that spun out in front of him, Howe said. The car that got hit also fled the scene.

The Chevrolet had to be towed from the scene, Howe said.

About half an hour later, at 9:22 p.m., another crash happened on westbound Route 34 past Frontenac Street. A 34-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Honda Civic as she observed "cars colliding in front of her vehicle." She tried to stop in an effort to avoid them, but slid into a concrete barrier, Howe said.

She was not injured, and her car did not require towing.
