The event is meant to recognize the history and legacy of Aurora's Greek community, officials said.

AURORA, IL — Aurora will host its first-ever Greek flag-raising ceremony in honor of the 202nd anniversary of Greek Independence Day this year.

While the formal holiday is observed March 25, which commemorates the end of the Greek Revolution in 1821, Aurora's ceremony will take place the day before, on March 24.

The community is invited to attend the flag raising beginning at 11 a.m. at One Aurora Plaza, 8 E. Galena Blvd.
