Shooting Injures 1, Damages Car On Near East Side: Aurora PD

A man was spotted running with a gun in his hand after the shooting on Fifth Street but has not been found, Aurora police said.

AURORA, IL — A car occupied by several people was hit by gunfire, resulting in broken glass that injured one occupant, in a Thursday shooting in the 700-800 block of Fifth Street, Aurora police said.

Officers responded at 4:53 p.m. to reports of shots fired when they found a car with one of its windows shattered. The shards of glass caused minor injuries to one person, who was treated by paramedics at the scene, officials said.

After the shooting, witnesses reported a man running with a firearm in his hand; he was last seen ducking into a multifamily residence in the area. Police arrived on the scene and surrounded the building to contain the man, but once occupants safely exited, officers searched inside and did not find him, officials said.

An investigation into the shooting remains open, police said in an update Friday morning.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Aurora Police Department's Investigations Division at 630-256-5500. Tips can also be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards of up to $5,000 to people who provide information that leads to the arrests of felony crime offenders.
