Kane County Board Rejects Effort To Withhold Coronavirus Death Data

Russell’s weekly coronavirus updates were the subject of debate at the Kane County Board’s meeting last week. The board narrowly shot down a proposal that would've blocked the county's main communication arm from publishing Russell’s releases on coronavirus-related deaths.

Board Chairman Chris Lauzen moved to stop Kane County Connects from circulating Russell's weekly reports, as his statistics include all deaths recorded in the county, while the Kane County Health Department reports the number of residents who have died of coronavirus-related symptoms. Lauzen said the discrepancies created "unnecessary ambiguity” and confusion, but the board voted his proposal down by a one-vote margin.
