Large Gas Leak Reported Near Rush Copley Medical Center: Aurora FD
A five-inch gas main was struck while construction was underway in the area, Aurora officials said.
AURORA, IL — A large gas leak occurred Wednesday near Rush Copley Medical Center, according to the Aurora Fire Department.
Construction workers hit a five-inch gas main on Waterford Drive between Ogden Avenue and the hospital, city officials said in a statement at 3 p.m. The fire department issued a Facebook alert about the gas leak at 1:17 p.m.

Nicor Gas is in the process of repairing the gas main, which could last into the evening hours, the city said.
Any workers in surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution. Any residents who were not asked to evacuate "have no need to be concerned at this time," according to the statement.

Traffic in the area is delayed while emergency crews work to resolve the problem. Aurora's emergency management department is on the scene, as are police officers.
First responders are asking drivers to seek alternate routes until the gas leak is resolved.
