Dear East Aurora School District 131 Community,

Find out what's happening in Aurorafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

First of all, a huge thank you and kudos to the incredible effort and support you have shown during our first two days of remote learning. I have heard so many positive stories about how our educators and students at all levels, are responding to the unprecedented situation our world is facing. The most important thing we can do during this time is stay connected, and the relationship between teachers and students is invaluable.

The global situation surrounding COVID-19 is constantly evolving, and we have been working hard to ensure our district responds as new information becomes available. As you know, the State of Illinois has mandated all schools close between March 17th and March 30th, and noted that all school days during this time are ‘Act of God’ days that do not need to be made up at the end of the school year.

As part of this development, the Illinois State Board of Education has clarified that student work completed during the statewide school closure will not negatively impact a student’s grades. Student work will count during the closure only if it will increase, or improve, a student’s academic standing. We encourage teachers and students to stay connected, and to utilize the resources provided to stay engaged in their learning during this time.

Remember that “grab and go” breakfast and lunch meals are available for students 18 years and under, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, at the following schools:

  • Allen Elementary, 700 S. Farnsworth Ave., DOOR 8
  • Dieterich Elementary, 1141 Jackson St., DOOR 6
  • Oak Park Elementary, 1200 Front St., DOOR 2
  • East High School, 500 Tomcat Lane, DOOR 8

Parents and siblings can also pick up student meals on their behalf, with proof of ID.

Another resource for our community is the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry at East High School. Beginning this Saturday, March 21, they will offer “drive-through” service from 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. Take Smith Blvd. to Ziegler Ave. and use the East High parking lot by the Aurora National Guard Recruiter, near Door #33. Walkers and bike riders can also access the food pantry by arriving at the loading dock area to be helped. We also invite families to utilize 2-1-1 services. Please see the attached document for additional information.

Finally, I will repeat what you are hearing over and over again, which is so important: stay home, practice social distancing, and wash your hands frequently.

Hang in there! Take advantage of the learning opportunities for your children to maintain continuity of learning.

Thank you for your amazing support and patience during this challenging time.
