3 Adults, 4 Children Displaced After Fire Blazes Building: FD

A two-story house on North Avenue caught fire around 11:29 a.m. Saturday. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

AURORA, IL — A lieutenant at the Aurora Fire Department was taken to a local hospital for an arm injury sustained during a house fire Saturday morning. No civilian injuries were reported, but the fire displaced three adults and four children, the department said.

A total of 40 firefighters responded to a 3rd alarm fire at a two-story, multi-family apartment building in the 400 block of North Avenue around 11:29 a.m. When the first group arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the building's exterior, according to the fire department.

The combination of the building's structure and the high wind conditions that morning resulted in the fire spreading inside the house and through the walls into the attic, fire officials said. The fire was under control in two and a half hours, during which a 36-year-old lieutenant injured his arm, requiring hospital transport. Officials said he was treated at the hospital before being released.
