Mailbox Blown Up By 'Unknown Explosive,' Suspect Caught On Ring Cam

Kane County Sheriff's Office's bomb squad is investigating the incident that happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in unincorporated Aurora.

AURORA, IL — A mailbox attached to a house in the 600 block of Gilbert Terrace in unincorporated Aurora was blown up by an "unknown explosive device" early Tuesday morning, according to officials at the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect, who officials described as a male in his later teens wearing a baseball cap, was filmed by a Ring camera. He was seen fleeing the scene before the mailbox exploded around 1:30 a.m.

Detectives and members of Kane County Sheriff's Office's bomb squad are investigating the incident. Officials are asking anyone who might recognize the person to call 630-444-1103. Tips can also be submitted through KCSO's app that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
