Merrimac Solutions Help Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry With Volunteers, $500 Donation
(Aurora, Illinois) December 12, 2017—Several members of Aurora-based Merrimac Solutions gave of their time, talent and treasure Nov. 16 to help visitors who came to Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry to receive staples for Thanksgiving celebrations. In addition to volunteering, the company also donated $500.

Since 1981, the pantry’s mission is to help end local hunger by ensuring that everyone has access to enough nourishing food so that the overall community stay healthy and productive.

During the day, seven Merrimac Solution employees distributed canned goods, soups, produce and vegetables to many families who looked forward to bountiful Thanksgiving celebrations and daily meals. Additionally, members stocked shelves. John Quinn, principal of Merrimac Solutions, was one of the team members who participated that day.

“Knowing that many people go without during the holidays, we wanted to show our giving spirit to a local nonprofit like the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry,” Quinn said. “Volunteering is very important to us as a company because it lets us see and help people who could be our neighbors and friends. We were happy to contribute $500 which we know will help the pantry continue to feed many residents throughout the year.”

Marilyn Weisner, the Aurora Food Pantry’s executive director, was very appreciative of local businesses such as Merrimac Solutions supporting their cause.

“It was a wonderfully generous gesture,” she said. “Those that come to the pantry are so grateful to the volunteers for helping, as is the staff at Aurora Food Pantry. We also hope that our corporate volunteers enjoy their experience here.”

The company’s donation, Weisner added, will be used to support the pantry’s food distribution effort.

“We’re very cost effective,” she said. “For every dollar that’s donated to Aurora Food pantry, we can give out $7 worth of food. We are able to do that, for one, because we have volunteers from corporate groups such as Merrimac, who help with our distribution tasks, reducing the need for paid staff. It’s wonderful to see an organization like Merrimac that cares so much about the well being of a community and the people who live in it, that cares about making sure everyone has enough to eat.”

About Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry:
The mission of Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry is to help end local hunger by ensuring that everyone has access to enough nourishing food, thereby helping our overall community stay healthy and productive. Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry was founded in 1981. An economic downturn had led to a growing number of people seeking food assistance, often through local churches. Unable to accommodate the growing need, these churches worked with local leaders to help establish a larger community pantry to assist those struggling to make ends meet. The collaboration of people of all faiths – and a desire to serve those in the city of Aurora and beyond – led to the forming of Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry.
