Officer Retires After Serving Aurora Police Department For 24 Years

AURORA, IL — An officer who worked at the Aurora Police Department for 24 years is retiring March 24, officials announced.

Although Esmeralda Tellner's retirement officially begins in more than a month, she worked her last day Thursday due to accumulated paid time off.

Tellner joined the Aurora Police Department as a records clerk on June 1, 1998. About five years later, on March 24, 2003, she was appointed a police officer. In addition to records clerk and patrol officer, Tellner also worked as a Community Oriented Police Officer.

Her work with the department extended beyond the three titles. She was also a street technician, a Crisis Intervention Team member, a Sex Offender/Violent Offender Registration Team member, a Spanish translator, an Elderly Service Officer, and a long-standing member of the Aurora Police Honor Guard.

"We commend Esmeralda for her many years of service to the Aurora Police Department and the citizens of Aurora, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors," officials said in a commemorative post on Facebook Thursday.
