Next weekend, the work will follow the same schedule from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 17 to 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 18; and again from 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 to 8 a.m. on Sunday June 19.

These times are coordinated by the BNSF Railway so that steel beams over the BNSF and Metra railroad tracks can be constructed when the tracks have minimal train traffic.

The Ohio Street Bridge has been closed to traffic since the spring of 2015 for reconstruction of the bridge, which was built in 1922.

When the project is complete in the fall of this year, the bridge will be a wider two-lane structure that also includes a sidewalk on the east side and a multi-use path for the bicycles and pedestrians on the west side. The bridge will also provide additional clearance for BNSF trains to meet newer safety standards.
