Person Shot Near Phillips Park, Sending 2 Schools Into Lockdown: APD
East Aurora High and Gates Elementary were placed under "secure and teach" until Aurora police determined no immediate threat Friday.
AURORA, IL — A person was shot in the 1000 block of Howell Place, near Phillips Park, sending two nearby schools into a “secure and teach” lockdown Friday morning, according to Aurora police.
While Aurora police were en route to the scene, East Aurora High School and Gates Elementary School were immediately placed into lockdown as a precautionary measure, officials said in an alert on Facebook around 11 a.m. Friday.
Officers arrived and determined there was no “immediate threat” to the schools, and the measure — which police said was a “typical measure to ensure the safety of students and staff of the schools nearby” — was lifted.

The shooting appears to be an isolated incident with no apparent threat to the public, according to Aurora police.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials said.
