AURORA, IL — An Aurora man has been charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly choked his wife to death and then attempted suicide by slitting his wrists and stabbing himself in the chest. The suspect, Carlos Nunez, 56, of the 400 block of S. Ohio St., is currently under police guard at a hospital in Aurora, police said. His wife, Jovita Nunez, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, a relative came to the couple's home just before 4:30 p.m. and found them both lying on the ground with "apparent stab wounds." When police arrived, they learned Nunez had allegedly beaten and choked his wife to death before trying to end his own life by "cutting his wrists and stabbing himself in the chest."
