Retired Aurora Cop, Veteran John Hennen Passes Away At 90

AURORA, IL — The Aurora police community is mourning the death of retired Aurora Police Officer John Hennen who passed away Sunday, June 3 at the age of 90. Hennen had was born in Aurora in 1927.

Hennen was drafted into the Navy in 1945 at age 18. He joined the Aurora police force in 1949, and also served in the Army from 1951 to 1953, his obituary says, and continued to serve as a police officer until 1978.

He will be interred at St. Joseph Church on Thursday, June 7, at 1 p.m. in a private ceremony. The preceding hour will be for in state visitation.

Sunday, June 3, 2018 at St. Margarets Hospital in Spring Valley, Illinois. He was born on December 14, 1927 in Aurora, Illinois.

John was a member of St. Joseph church. He was a lifelong resident of Aurora and retired in 1979 from the Aurora Police Department. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy after being drafted in 1945 and later the U.S. Army serving from 1951 until 1953.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie (Unwin) Hennen; his daughter, Tina Hennen Harris; two grandchildren; Tanner Hennen, Jacquelyn Harris; two brothers, Nicholas Hennen, Gerald (Delores) Hennen; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Margaret (Ussel) Hennen; two sisters, Louise May, Evelyn (Edwin) Novack; a brother, William Hennen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Church 722 High Street Aurora, Illinois 60505; Fr. Jerome Leake officiate. Interment will be private.

In state visitation will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Church.
