Man Dies After Semi Drags Him During Crash In Aurora

Police believe the victim "blew a red light."

AURORA, IL —One person is dead after a serious crash that took place late Wednesday in Aurora. Police say the collision, which claimed the life of Paul Lydston, 43, of the 300 block of Cane Garden, Aurora. took place at approximately 11:30 p.m..

According to police, a minivan appeared to run a red light and collide with a Freightliner semi. The driver, identified as then became pinned beneath part of the semi, police say.

The semi then dragged Lydston about 100 feet, Aurora police said. Aurora firefighters intervened to help extricate Lydston from the wreckage and get him airlifted to a local hospital.

Lydston's condition was initially listed "serious, but stable" before he succumbed to his wounds.

This crash's cleanup took teams more than seven hours. Traffic did not reopen near the intersection until nearly 7 a.m., according to police.
