Shooting Leads To Chase, Crashes Near Fox Valley Mall In Aurora

AURORA, IL — Five people were hospitalized Wednesday after a shooting that led to a police chase and multiple car crashes near Fox Valley Mall in Aurora. According to a news release from Aurora Police Department spokesperson Paris Lewbel, officers first got a report of shots fired in the 600 block of Broadway around 1:30 p.m.

Lewbel said police tried to pull a gray Monte Carlo over in connection with the shots fired report, but the driver wouldn't stop. Instead, the car started to drive "erratically" and crossed into oncoming traffic on East New York Street. The car then hit multiple cars near Fox Valley Mall, Lewbel said.

Three people in the suspect car were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Two of them remain in critical condition and the third is in stable condition. Another driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The incident shut down East New York Street between Commons Drive and Route 59.

Police say a man, 35, with a gunshot wound was also taken to a local hospital. They believe this was the person injured in the shots fired incident.

The shooting, car chase, and crashes are under investigation by the Aurora Police Department and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force. Police say they believe the shooting is "gang-related."
