AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he fired shots at a marked Aurora Police Department squad car Thursday. Andres Ramirez, 46, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed violence, possession of a firearm while on parole and criminal damage to property in connection with the incident.

Ramirez was on parole at the time for a 2007 attempted murder conviction, according to authorities.

According to police, the car was patrolling the area near the intersection of Claim and High Streets around 7:30 p.m. when Ramirez opened fire on the squad car. Police say gunshots also hit another car and a house nearby.

In a press release, Aurora Police Department spokesperson Paris Lewbel said police reviewed dashcam footage to determine that Ramirez was aiming at the police car.

Ramirez is currently being held in Kane County Jail on $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 22.
