Spooky Season At Fox Valley Park District: See What's Planned

Most events this month are Halloween-themed. They include ​Hocus Pocus Hoe Down, Forest of Fright and Trick-or-Treat Tango.

AURORA, IL — With spooky season officially here, families are decorating their yards, putting out pumpkins and stocking up on candy ahead of Halloween.

To celebrate the season, the Fox Valley Park District has an array of events planned throughout the month of October.

While the weather remains pleasant, albeit chillier, it's a key time to continue being outside and enjoying nature before winter settles in. Here is a look at what the park district has planned this month.

  • Hocus Pocus Hoe Down
    • What: An evening of Halloween activities that include dancing, crafts and a showing of "Hocus Pocus." Costume-wearing is encouraged.
    • When: 6-9 p.m. Oct. 21
    • Where: Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave.
  • Trick-or-Treat Tango
    • What: Trick-or-treating followed by dancing, crafts and games. Prizes will be given to winners of the costume contest.
    • When: 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 21
    • Where: Vaughan Athletic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail
  • Forest of Fright
    • What: Explore the Red Oak woods with a spooky self-led trail hike. After, guests can sit by the fire and listen to haunted tales. Children younger than 8 are encouraged to stay inside the nature center for crafts, music and games.
    • When: 6-9 p.m. Oct. 22
    • Where: Red Oak Nature Center, 930 N. River Road
  • BOO-st Your Fitness Challenge
    • What: Join fitness centers' group exercise challenge. Instructors will have skull eggs at each class with either a ticket for a Fox Fitness swag item or a raffle ticket for a $100 Visa gift card.
    • When: All week Oct. 24-30
    • Where: Fox Fitness at Eola, Prisco and Vaughn centers
  • Pumpkin Patch Pool Party
    • What: Take a dip in a floating pumpkin patch in the inaugural Pumpkin Patch Pool Party. Admission includes a pumpkin and materials to use at decorating stations as well as 45 minutes of swim time.
    • When: 8:45-10:30 a.m. Oct. 29
    • Where: Vaughan Aquatic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail
  • Tricks for Treats
    • What: An indoor preschool gymnastics Halloween celebration that will feature games, trick-or-treating and a spooky obstacle course. Kids between 18 months and 6 years old are welcome.
    • When: 10-11 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 31
    • Where: Eola Community Center, 555 S. Eola Road
