Aurora Fireworks Rescheduled After 4th Of July Storms

RiverEdge and McCullough Park were evacuated due to storms, but you'll still have a chance to see fireworks.

AURORA, IL — Hopeful Aurora fireworks fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the city's annual Fourth of July fireworks show has been rescheduled. The fireworks display was canceled late Wednesday as violent storms ripped through Chicago's suburbs.

The event will now take place on July 27 at 9 p.m., according to Aurora Police. Viewing spots for the free show will be available at McCullough and RiverEdge Parks.

The parks had been evacuated on July 4 when conditions got dangerous, Mayor Richard Irvin said in a news release:

"Safety is our top priority. We appreciate everyone's patience, understanding and cooperation during the evacuation process. We'll come back together in a few weeks and enjoy a wonderful Friday evening watching the fireworks."

The Aurora fireworks show will take place on the same night as another free event. Before the fireworks, residents can catch live music at the city's Downtown Alive concert at RiverEdge Park. Doors open at 6 p.m.
