'Hard Landing' By Student Pilot At Suburban Airport: Aurora Police

The student was the only person in the aircraft, police said.

AURORA, IL — A student pilot "came down too hard" at Aurora Municipal Airport while practicing landings Monday, police said.

The Aurora Police Department was notified at 12:15 p.m. of a reported crash at the small airport located just west of Sugar Grove. An instructor was observing the student's landings from the ground, officials said in a news release.

The student was the only person in the aircraft. No injuries were reported, according to police.

The hard landing caused minor damage to the aircraft. One runway was temporarily affected, but the airport remained open and fully operational. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
