Sugar Grove Man Faces Multiple Felony Charges For Aurora Shooting: PD

Police were dispatched May 20 to the area around Benton and River streets, where they found a victim with an injured arm, officials said.

AURORA, IL — A Sugar Grove man has been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting May 20 in Aurora, officials said Tuesday evening.

Aurora police arrested 69-year-old Billy Cox Sr. at his residence in the 100 block of Railroad Street and charged him with multiple felonies:

  • Aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • 2 counts of aggravated battery, public way
  • 2 counts of aggravated battery, deadly weapon
  • No Firearm Owner Identification Card
  • 2 counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
  • Aggravated assault

Officers were dispatched to the area around Benton and River streets at 8:43 a.m. for a disturbance. On the scene, police found a 27-year-old Aurora man with an injured arm. Officials believe the incident to have been isolated and targeted.

Cox fled the scene before police arrived, according to officials.

Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.
