Teen With Gun At Aurora Transportation Center Faces Felonies: Police

The 18-year-old pointed the gun at several people and battered a man with it, Aurora police said.

AURORA, IL — Multiple felony charges have been issued to an Aurora teen who was found with a gun at the Aurora Transportation Center, police said.

Officers were dispatched at 7:39 p.m. Jan. 20 to the building at 233 N. Broadway for a report of a man with a gun. Police found 18-year-old Eliahias Martinez near the restroom, according to a Sunday news release.

Police uncovered in an investigation that Martinez was observed holding the gun in his hand and pointing it at several people before officers arrived. Witnesses also saw him hit another man with his hands and the gun, officials said.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office authorized the following charges against Martinez:

  • Armed violence
  • Aggravated battery in public place
  • Aggravated battery with deadly weapon
  • Aggravated assault with laser attached to firearm
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon

Martinez was taken into custody and brought to the Kane County jail for a pretrial hearing.
