Aurora | Washington Middle School students gave teachers an A-plus on their fundraising efforts for the "My Genius Now" Afterschool Program.

Teachers from West Aurora School District, 129, volunteered behind the counter on Monday, April 15th, at the Aurora McDonald’s located on Galena Blvd., where they served students and their families in a fundraiser for the afterschool program called "My Genius Now".

Teachers Fuller and Klimpke tended the apple pie box during the night while Gloria Gedde, Lori Gough, and Pat Swanson sold the pies.

Washington Middles School teachers did an outstanding job working the entire night to support the afterschool program. The proceeds from the sale of 133 pies went directly to benefit the "My Genius Now" Program and fifteen percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher’s Night sales were donated directly to the program as well.

To make this an extra special night the Washington MS and "My Genius Now" had some musical entertainment from the school band, the Ukelele Players, and more. They all did a fantastic job entertaining with a variety of feel good music.

Ed Schmitt, Owner-Operator of the Aurora McDonald’s, was delighted to participate in the worthy cause for education and the community.

“McTeacher’s Night is part of McDonald’s larger commitment to education and other important initiatives supporting families and the local community,” Schmitt said.

“We are proud to serve the families of the Washington Middle School Community through the McTeacher’s Night event. In addition to helping provide financial support for our local schools, we help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and their sense of community.”

The “My Genius Now” program provides valuable after-school education opportunities for students. From remedial reading and writing, students can gain experiences in music (vocal and instrumental), culinary, dance, karate, creative writings, law enforcement and various arenas of art. Community members help tutor students and “pull back the curtain” to provide hands-on learning of various professions such as electrician, plumber, carpenter and mechanic.
