Woman Killed In Shooting: Aurora PD

A fatal shooting and single-car crash happened near Prairie Street and Woodlawn Avenue in Aurora.

AURORA, IL — A woman was fatally shot Jan. 13 near Prairie Street and Woodlawn Avenue in an incident Aurora police are investigating as a homicide, officials said.

Police responded to the area at 4:49 p.m. after receiving 911 calls about a car crash and shots fired. At the scene, police found a 46-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds in a car, according to a news release.

Aurora paramedics brought the woman to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after. Her name is being withheld pending the completion of an autopsy on Jan. 17 by the Kane County Coroner's Office.

No other injuries were reported during the single-car crash, police said.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the police department's investigations division at 630-256-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000 or online. The group offers cash rewards of up to $5,000 to people who provide information that leads to the arrest of felony crime offenders and the capture of felony fugitives.
