Barrington Community Honors Veterans At Evergreen Cemetery

Barrington community members came out on December 17th to honor local veterans buried at Evergreen Cemetery.

A chilly December 17th did not dampen the patriotic remembrance of Wreaths Across America Day at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. More than 150 citizens and groups from Scouts, Leopardo Construction, UBS Financial, and BHS Quarterback Club joined the Memorial Ceremony that honored each of the identified Veterans at Evergreen with a live balsam wreath. The brief Memorial Ceremony, led by Signal Hill Chapter Joyce Wright, included remarks by Congressman Sean Casten, Barrington President Karen Darch, Honorary Illinois Regent Sharla Luken, and Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores President Bill Bishop.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Signal Hill Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, has sponsored Wreaths Across America Day at Evergreen Cemetery with the mission of honoring our nation’s Veterans with a wreath, remembering them by name and teaching children the value of service. With the support of other Veteran organizations, community sponsors, and individual citizens, Signal Hill Chapter was able to honor all 780 identified Veterans at Evergreen this year.

The Signal Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, raises funds throughout the year and distributes to 501 (c) (3) organizations, whose missions support DARs mission of education, historic preservation, patriotism, conservation, and Native American issues.
