Bartlett Lacrosse Team receives Green-T Award for Excellence in Green Fundraising

Bartlett school team recognized by USAgain, a local textile recycling company

USAgain, the textile recycling company based in West Chicago, IL, recently announced the winners of its annual Green-T Awards. Bartlett High School Boys Lacrosse Team, recipient of the award for Excellence in Green Fundraising, was one of the 16 award winners.

The Green-T awards are to recognize and reward individuals or organizations that support recycling and sustainability in Illinois. The awards were presented Oct. 7 at the Green-T Awards ceremony where Michelle Eckelberry, President of the Lacrosse Team, accepted the award on behalf of the school.

Bartlett Boys Lacrosse has helped make their school more sustainable while raising funds for their activities though eco-friendly fundraisers. In partnership with USAgain, the lacrosse team recycled 3,428 pounds of textiles—a truly impressive amount for a one-day collection event. By doing so, they went green and raised green, earning $650 through USAgain’s Greenraiser.

“The BHS Lacrosse Team is honored to receive this award for our eco-friendly fundraising efforts,” said Tom Skelton, VP Bartlett Lacrosse Club. “We’re proud of how our boys, the families and community helped with the clothing fundraiser. It helped raise recycling awareness and connect for a great cause.”

By recycling 3,428 pounds of textiles, the team prevented more than 23,900 pounds of CO­2 from entering the atmosphere; they also saved more than 4.7 million gallons of water through their commitment to recycling. Bartlett Lacrosse Team serves as a role model for high school students in Illinois and across the country.

“We love working with students and young adults to spread the message about textile recycling,” CEO of USAgain Mattias Wallander said. “Bartlett Lacrosse Team collected an incredible amount of textiles in just one day. We congratulate them on this feat and hope they continue to spread recycling awareness.”
