DAR To Honor Vietnam War Veterans at Memorial Service
Public is invited to attend National Vietnam War Veterans Day, March 29, 2026, beginning at 1:30 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington, IL
To honor, remember, and thank the valiant efforts of the Veterans who served during the Vietnam War, the Barrington-based Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) cordially invites the public to a commemorative event at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
In early 2017, a law was passed establishing March 29 of each year as the National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The date is significant because the last U.S. troops left South Vietnam on March 29, 1972.
A brief program will feature representatives from local VFW, American Legion, Barrington Veterans Fraternity, and Lake Barrington Shores Veterans’ Organizations, Barrington Village officials, and officers from the local National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

After Taps is played, fifty-four Vietnam War Veterans interred at Evergreen Cemetery will be honored. Volunteers who wish to participate will read a brief bio of each Veteran, place a USA flag and a Vietnam Veteran’s flag on each grave, thank him or her for their service, and give them a salute.
All are welcome to attend the service and help make this a meaningful and memorable tribute. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the predicted weather conditions since the event is held outdoors.

The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was chartered fifty years ago in Barrington, IL in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women’s service organization headquartered in Washington, DC.
DAR members promote historic preservation, education, patriotism, and conservation via commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service, and more.
Since the national organization was founded in 1890, over one million women have joined NSDAR. Membership is open to any woman aged eighteen and over who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution.
